Clarissa Townsend

Nurse Practitioner

I graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sir Sandford Fleming College. Completed my BScN at Lakehead in Thunder Bay. Completed the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Ottawa.  Master's at Queens University with a Master of Science in Health and Aging. Spent my career as a Register Nurse working mostly in Emergency rooms across the province including managing an Emergency room in Northern Alberta just outside the Northwest Territories. As a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner, I spent 9 years in a rural family health team with just under 1000 patients including clinics such as women’s health care and sexual health. Then 9 years working in community based palliative care including a LEAP facilitator with Pallium Canada, I was engaged with multiple working groups across the province to enhance palliative care such as the clinical advisory counsel for the Ontario Palliative Care Network. In December 2022, I joined the Kawartha Cardiology Clinic in their Vascular Optimization Clinic on a 2-year contract focusing on Hypertension, Dyslipidemia and Heart Failure. I was awarded September 2024 with the NPAO Boehringer Ingelheim Award. I spent 5 months working in a contract role with the Durham Cancer Care Clinic in their Gyn Oncology program and primary care with the 360 NP lead clinic in Peterborough.  My teaching appointments in past included Queens University in the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program, Loyalist/Brook and currently Trent University in the School of Nursing. May 5, 2025 I join Peterborough Regional Health Care in their Additions Medicine in patient consult team and collaborative role with Forecast and residential treatment center. Starting October 1, I am beyond privileged to be joining the Restore Healthcare Team 1-2 evenings a week to help support wellness and the health care needs of our community.
